I've now done a bit of research and know I've done a
version of this ride before (at Bakken in Denmark) but it was on nowhere
near as good a setting as this one. The first big thrill came almost as the
ride started. It sees you coming within literally inches of the rides
central column, barely avoiding it. Having done a large number of rides I've
seen a lot of head choppers and near misses, so it takes something good to
shock me, but this did it. I did worry that someone could break a wrist or
ankle you come so close, but then I realised there's a safety guard to stop
people sticking their limbs out sideways.
This ride isn't a one trick pony though. It quickly lifts you up to a
diagonal angle, that sees you spinning through the air in an insane way.
It's fast, thrilling, intense and exciting, everything a great white knuckle
whirl and hurl thrill ride should be.
Sadly the next part of the ride isn't quite as exciting. It sees the
arms tilting you back to a steeper angle. This is still very exciting as you
fly through the air, and are constantly rocked due to the changing angles.
If the whole ride was like this (which I think was the setting the Bakken
version was on) it would still be a good thrill ride, but after the exciting
first section it feels like a bit of a come down.
I reckon if you got a version of this ride, did a good job with the theming,
and put it on the right ride program to emphasise the rides strengths you'd
have one of the greatest thrill rides anywhere. This version doesn't quite
reach those lofty heights, but it still offers enough great moments to make
it a great ride. If you find yourself within relatively easy travelling
distance from Funland this ride is well worth making an effort for.
