Winter
Wonderland,
Hyde Park January 2012 Update
|
|
|
|
We made a
second visit to the Winter Wonderland event in January
2012. Thanks to the bad weather it was a lot quieter
this year, which did take a lot away from the
atmosphere. On the plus side it was quiet enough for us
to add the kiddie coaster we missed last year to our
coaster count, along with a spinning mouse, new to the
event this year. As well as the coasters we did a few
old favourites, plus a few more new rides for this year.
|
|

Like last year a great effort was
made to make everything look the part.
|
|

These great dodgems were at the
entrance of the alpine village area again. Sadly it was
to quiet for it to be worthwhile riding the dodgems.
|
|

The Alpine village had some
additional rides I don't remember seeing from last year,
including this ski themed orbiter ride..
|
|

Another new ride in the
alpine village was this booster ride.
|
|

The new roller coaster for
this year was this festively decorated spinning mouse.
We did get a lot of mad spinning on the lower mouse
section.
|
|

Also back from last year is
the much rarer inverted mouse roller coaster.
|
|

The big new thrill ride this
year is this one called Air, similar to Bling at
Blackpool. It was one I planned to do, but the weather
and the £6.00 a go cost meant that in the end I decided
to skip it.
|

Last year we missed out the ghost train, so we were glad
to get a go on it this year. It ranks up there as one of
the better fairground ghost trains I've done with lots
of great models throughout the ride. |
|

The main new dark ride for
this year was this funhouse called the alpine hotel. The
first part that sees you climbing up the four floors is
a good fun house. There's a bit of a dull point in the
middle, were you're just going down the stairs, it's a
shame they couldn't fit in a slide down instead. The
final part at the back of the funhouse is what really
sticks out in the memory though, were it has 3 special
effects rooms, where the floor moves, and things move
around you one after the other..

A view of the fair from near the
top of the funhouse.
