The
Eastern Discovery Tour
Day 6 |
|
|
|

After leaving Beijing Amusement park I headed
towards the Tiantangongmen Metro stop (line 5) which is where the famous
Temple of Heaven is located. |
|

After the Forbidden City I think this is one
of Beijing's most visited attractions. As well as a large park it has 3
landmark attractions down a central route. The most striking of which is
the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvest. |
|

Further South is this structure. |
|

At the South end of the main area is the Altar
to Heaven. |

|

There are some good shopping opportunities.
There's the Hongqiao Pearl Market, and the Toy Market. |
|

As you might have guessed the bottom floor of
the Toy Market is dedicated towards the sale of a variety of toys. |
|

In the evening I got the Metro to Beixinqiao
(line 5) where you can use exit B or C to reach Ghost Street. |
|

Ghost Street is completely taken up with a
huge number of Chinese Restaurants, all lit up by the neon signs and red
lanterns. |
|

Not only does it look spectacular, after
putting up with the harassment at Houhai Lake a few evenings ago this
was a welcome change of pace. You can walk down the road relatively
undisturbed, making it a far better place to visit. |
|

The only slight downer is a busy main road
running down it. This isn't to bad though, and I didn't even notice
inside the restaurant. The only thing to watch out for is there aren't
many places to cross the road. |
