The
Eastern Discovery Tour
Day 3 |
|
|
|

Beijing Zoo is one of the most beautifully
landscaped zoos I've been to, and includes a number of large and
impressive statues around it. I would have preferred it though if they'd
used the space and money for additional space for the big cats
themselves though. |
|

The Beijing Aquarium is located in the zoo,
but it's a separate attraction from the Zoo which you have to pay a
separate entry charge for. It's well worth it though, as it's an amazing
attraction, in a different league to any aquarium I've done in the UK. |
|

The first part of the Zoo is the Rainforest
Zone. As you've probably guessed it's themed as a rainforest, and
features a large number of tanks with different types of fish in them. |
|

After the Rainforest one you get to this large
central area, featuring a large number of shops and amusements. From
here you can access every other zone in the aquarium. |
|

The central zone also contains a rock pool
area. The hi-light of which is this pool with a collection of sea
turtles swimming inside it. |
|

Two of the zones are dedicated to two large
tanks. One contained some large sturgeon fish, this one contained a
collection of sharks and rays.
You might also notice the Chinglish sign at the top here. Don't what
into the concave mirror? |
|

The most impressive section was the Coral Reef
zone. This is a huge collection of tropical fish, including this huge
tanks that goes over two floors. There's even a tunnel through the tank
you ride an escalator in to get up to the next floor. |
|

The most impressive tanks most impressive
resident. |
|

The only slight criticism I have of the Coral
Reef section is that due to the large size of it, it gets a little
repetitive, seeing so many similar types of fish in similar habitats. It
would help to have an area with perhaps a ray pool, or dedicated to some
other types of fish. When though the only criticism I have is there's
too much of something though you know it's doing something right. |
|

The only real disappointment I had of the
aquarium was the dolphin zone. I never saw the show, and the rest of the
time they were kept here, where it was to murky to see them up close,
and you didn't get a great view from up on the viewing platform. |
