I
need to start by saying that my personal opinion of this ride differs
greatly from the general consensus of this ride. This is a coaster that
features highly on many peoples top 10 lists, and many see as a contender
for worlds best steel coaster. As you
might have worked out from the fact I've only given it 8 this is not
something I agree with. I don't know if I caught it on a bad day, when it
wasn't running at it's best, but I didn't think it lived up to these
standards.
I'm not saying it's a bad
coaster, it's a great one, but I don't think it's outstanding. The station
and the area around it is well themed as a base camp for a safari style
expedition.
The
ride starts with a 173 foot tall hill lift, before setting out on a large
sprawling layout. It goes out in a lone line over a number of hills along
the way, before a large corner which it turns around at, turning in to
another set of hills running parallel to the first set. Each hill provides a
good burst of air time at the top, making it a technically good
coaster. The trouble I found that the ride felt flat between the bursts of
air time. For a simplistic layout like this the trains need to achieve a
very high perception of speed to keep a high level of excitement for the
entire ride. Perhaps I caught it it on a bad day, but I found it ran at a
rate that made it a good coaster, but didn't achieve the level of greatness
that many others have said it achieves. |
